CARE CENTER

The Yukon Flats CARE Center is the behavioral health arm of the Yukon Flats Health Center and is provides mental health and substance abuse services to the residents of the Yukon Flats villages.

Healing through Communication and Collaboration

In August of 2003, a gathering was held in Fort Yukon where Yukon Flats Tribal representatives spent many hours sharing their ideas and preferences to shape the future development of CARE Center programs. Participants had great enthusiasm for the incorporation of traditional culture and values into CARE Center programs and for the concept of dealing with families & communities as a whole.

Village-Based Counselor Program

Four village-based counselors serve our people's need in substance abuse and mental health counseling and referral, prevention, education and outreach. Village-based counselors are located in Fort Yukon, Venetie, Arctic Village, and Circle. A monthly visitation schedule for villages without a resident counselor has also been developed so all villages receive services.

Clinicians

Two clinicians are based in Fort Yukon and are responsible for behavioral health services for the CATG villages. The Clinicians provide mental health, substance abuse, and children's services.

Additional Services

  • Holistic Health Hour, a weekly radio show, provides a powerful means of communication.
  • 5 support groups are available, 3 in Venetie & 2 in Fort Yukon; all are available via teleconference to all villages.
  • Weekly school visits providing services to students in Fort Yukon, Circle, and Venetie.
  • Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API) professionals provide services such as psychiatric/psychological evaluations and medication via telepsychiatry.
