"We've got about
30 people living here. I think the main reason we stay out here is subsistence.
In these flats here, there's a lot of lakes. Lots of ducks meet here; it's good
for moose. We've got whitefish and pike, but no salmon. We have to go almost
all
the way to Fort Yukon to get Salmon.Fort Yukon is about 25 miles away by air,
but by boat on Birch Creek, you have to go 200 miles. We also live here to try
and keep away from alcohol and drugs. Alcohol and drugs still come, but it helps,
staying out here."
