Native American Careers & Technical Education Program
CATG and the University of Alaska, College of Rural and Community Development, Interior-Aleutians Campus (UAF, CRCD, I-AC) visualize a comprehensive career and technical educational and training effort designed around a Career Pathway model.
Goal 1: To develop and implement a Career Pathway model for career and technical education within the Yukon Flats for the promotion of the tribal workforce.
Goal 2: To create a supportive professional and technical learning environment within the Yukon Flats that encourages degree attainment.
Goal 3: To increase tribal workforce employability and placement in high-wage and management positions within the Yukon Flats.
This effort will introduce a strategic Career Pathway model that will connect existing career fields within the Yukon Flats with accredited professional training programs available thru the I-AC. The Career Pathway model will include: employer partnerships, career field mentoring, student support services, and technical education and training. This effort will develop career pathways for the range of rural/tribal affiliated careers and support student training in this range of fields. Career Pathways will be developed in partnership with regional employers and utilizing existing job descriptions for within the Yukon Flats. These career pathways will be matched with existing fields of study within the UAF, CRCD, I-AC program, including:
- Accounting Technician
- Applied Accounting
- Applied Business
- Applied Health
- Construction Trade Technology
- Educator: Para Professional
- Information Technology Specialist
|
- Early Childhood
- Human Services
- Office Management Technology
- Rural Human Services
- Rural Development
- Tribal Management
|
This effort will expand the existing inventory of Occupational Endorsement to the pathway system and will also expand the existing Tribal Management program to include additional career pathways thru the development of additional concentrations, beginning initially with a "Rural Forestry Management" concentration. Development within existing academic programs will provide for a quality and accredited training program that can be applied throughout the I-AC and CRCD system.
