Native American Vocational Technical Education Program
The Native American Vocational Technical Education Program
(NAVTEP) is a partnership of the Council of Athabascan Tribal
Governments and the College of Rural Alaska,
Yukon Flats Center. The program invests in the people of the Yukon Flats
through education and professional development for the future.
The NAVTEP program has
two components: the Tribal Management program and the Construction Trades
Technology program.
The Construction Trades Technology program takes hands-on trainings to the
villages. Students develop their skills in carpentry, electrical, plumbing,
and heavy equipment operation through two to four week sessions held in their
home community.
The Tribal Management Program courses lead to a Tribal
Management Certificate from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. Coursework
is in the areas of: Enviromental & Natural
Resources, Tribal Business, Tribal Planning, Tribal Management, Health and
Social/Human Services, Education & Employment, and Economics. Courses are
offered as semester long courses and as intensives.
