Community Health Aide/Practitioner (CHA/P)
For emergencies, please call 907-662-2462 or 1-800-478-7425.
Who We Are
The Council of Athabascan Tribal Governments operates four clinics across the Yukon Flats Region located in Arctic Village, Beaver, Fort Yukon, and Venetie. Three of these facilities maintain staffing through Community Health Aides and Medical Office Assistants, supplemented by periodic visits from mid-level healthcare providers.
Training and Certification
The training framework spans two to three years, comprising six advancement levels beginning with online preparation and culminating in practitioner certification. All practitioners maintain state licensure and complete ongoing medical education requirements. CATG mandates minimum Emergency Trauma Technician certification for all employed practitioners.
What We Do
The CHA/P role represents a critical position in Alaska’s rural healthcare infrastructure. These professionals frequently serve as patients’ initial contact point within the medical system. Operating under collaborative oversight from the Medical Director, CHAP Director, and Village Council, they deliver primary healthcare, within given limits of their level of training, including:
- Preventive care
- Acute care
- Chronic disease management
- Emergency care
Dental Emergencies
Urgent dental care is available through walk-in visits at the Yukon Flats Health Center in Fort Yukon, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
