Type 2 Wildland Firefighting Crew
CATG’s Natural Resources Department operates a Type 2 wildland firefighting crew through a Bureau of Land Management contract extending through September 30, 2025. The crew serves the Upper Yukon Zone with bases in Fort Yukon, Venetie, and Arctic Village.
Program Overview
Our wildland firefighting crew protects communities, forests, and traditional lands throughout the region. This program represents a historic achievement in tribal self-governance and provides critical employment opportunities for local residents.
Crew Composition
- Currently 20 personnel based in Fort Yukon
- Highly motivated and committed candidates sought for vacancies
Time Commitment
- Up to 6 months seasonal engagement
- During incidents: 8-16 hour daily shifts for up to 21 days
Minimum Requirements
To join our firefighting crew, candidates must:
- Be 18 years or older
- Submit resume
- Pass physical fitness test
- Clear background check
- Housing provided
Preferred Qualifications
- Active red card with FFT2 certification
- NWCG certifications (S-130/S-190, FEMA IS-700)
- One or more years wildland fire experience
- Additional certifications: L-280, I-200, S-131, S-133, S-211, S-212, S-260, S-270, S-271

No prior firefighting experience? We are willing to train individuals with the right physical ability and strong mindset. If you are motivated, resilient, and committed to hard work, we want to hear from you.
- Starting wage: $29.00 + overtime and hazard pay
- Pack testing and training: Scheduled to begin in April
