Position Summary
The Early Head Start Home Visitor (Part-Time) provides planned home visits and socialization experiences to pregnant women, infants, toddlers, and their families enrolled in the Early Head Start program in Venetie. This position incorporates native culture and language elements into service delivery and works under the supervision of the Early Head Start Director.
Primary Responsibilities
Home Visiting Services
- Conduct planned home visits with enrolled families on a part-time schedule
- Facilitate group socialization activities for children and families
- Deliver culturally appropriate early learning activities
- Support parent-child interaction and attachment
- Promote school readiness and developmental growth
Cultural Integration
- Incorporate Gwich’in language into activities and interactions
- Honor and respect traditional parenting practices
- Include cultural activities and traditional knowledge
- Support use of native language in the home
- Connect families to cultural resources and elders
Family Engagement
- Provide parent education on child development
- Support families in setting and achieving goals
- Build trusting relationships with families
- Connect families to community services and resources
- Respect family autonomy and decision-making
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain required documentation of services
- Track child development and family progress
- Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards
- Participate in staff meetings and training
- Complete required paperwork in a timely manner
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or willingness to obtain within 18 months
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Cultural knowledge and sensitivity to Alaska Native communities
- Ability to work independently with flexible hours
- Ability to pass background check
- Valid driver’s license or reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework or degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
- Previous experience working with young children and families
- Fluency in Gwich’in language
- Knowledge of Venetie community and culture
- Experience with home visiting programs
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Understanding of child development principles
Working Conditions
- Part-time position based in Venetie, Alaska
- Flexible schedule to accommodate family needs
- Home visits conducted in family homes
- May include some evening or weekend hours
- Work in rural Alaska environment
- Year-round position with varying seasonal conditions
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry educational materials (up to 20 lbs)
- Ability to sit on floors and engage in active play
- Comfortable working in home environments
- Ability to travel within the community in various weather
- Must be able to interact with infants and toddlers
Part-Time Schedule & Benefits
Schedule:
- Part-time hours (typically 20-25 hours per week)
